In 2014 I’ve been studying Visual Arts, including a subject in Visual Media. We have a personal project to undertake and the kind of art that has interested me in this half of the year is eco-art and art with a social conscience (protest art etc). I went to one film in the Environmental Film festival this year, Angel Azul (www.angelazulthemovie.com), and was inspired by the potential of art to not just highlight social issues, but to provide innovative solutions or alternatives. In the film, sculptor Jason decaries Taylor builds an artificial reef, made up of his sculptures, which are cast from marine-grade concrete. Coral and other marine life begin to grow on the sculptures once they are installed underwater in Mexico (and other locations). My project is extremely humble in comparison but I aim to explore using art to make a point about justice and the plight of the endangered or marginalised in this world.
